Italian-style Breadcrumbs

Because of the addition of spices, Italian-style Breadcrumbs are great for breading meat, fish, chicken, pork, vegetables. You can also top off casseroles with breadcrumbs - just add a few chunks of butter or a drizzle of olive oil and toast under the grill (broiler). And stuffed mushrooms and crab or salmon cakes are awesome with homemade breadcrumbs. Homemade breadcrumbs are more nutritious, better tasting, and easy to make and you can use any type of bread, except one with heavy grain kernels.

To make one cup:

6 slices bread
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon dried parsley flakes
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon sugar
a dash dried oregano

How to Cook Italian-style Breadcrumbs

  1. Cut the crusts off the bread, break it into pieces and pulse it in a blender until it becomes fine breadcrumbs (this should be equivalent to about one cup of breadcrumbs). Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and blend thoroughly.
