How to Cook Oats Soup
- Soak the oats in the water for 10 minutes to help soften them. Add the milk to the oats and water and place on a medium heat until it boils gently. Remove from the heat and set aside.
- Peel and finely slice the onions, peel and finely chop the garlic and carrots, remove the seeds and finely chop the pepper and chillies. Heat the butter in a pan, add the chopped garlic, chillies and onion and fry gently for 2-3 minutes to soften.
- Add the green beans and sauté gently for 10-15 minutes until they are half cooked. Add the oats mixture and the frozen peas, mix well, season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste and cook gently for another 8-10 minutes. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.

Your choice of beans is up to you. Green beans, also known as French beans, string beans, snap beans or squeaky beans, are probably the best choice, but you can equally use finely sliced runner beans. (If you want to use fresh peas, you can do so, but add them to the pan at the same time as the beans)
Reviews of Oats Soup
![]() Lovely texture but, for western tastes, I think you could easily drop down to just half a chillie. I will certainly make it again, with that change, because the texture and flavour is Ok otherwise. lizzysheard (5 reviews) |
What To Eat Tonight

What do you do with the leftovers? There are so many really great ways to make use of them that your should never waste anything.

Not everything is right for freezing. Some foods, however, just beg to go into the freezer waiting for that moment when you need them most!

No mess, no fuss, just throw it in the oven and leave it alone till it's ready to eat. That's the approximate theory! How close do we get?
