PLEASE NOTE: This recipe calls for the GRILLING or BROILING of food. In most countries of the world, the term "grilling" refers to heat coming from above the food source. Significantly, in North America, it signifies heat from below the food (such as barbecuing). In the United States and Canada, when the heat source for grilling comes from above, grilling is termed broiling, and the pan that holds the food is usually called a broiler pan.
How to Cook Grilled Tomatoes
- Cut the tomatoes into two halves and sprinkle a little salt and freshly ground pepper. Place the tomatoes 'face down' in the grill pan. Cook under a medium grill for three or four minutes then turn them over and cook for a further three or four minutes 'face up'.
GRAHAM'S HOT TIP:
Tomatoes need to be grilled on a medium heat to prevent the skins from burning. They can, however, be grilled at the same time as bacon or sausages because there's usually spare room in the grill pan along the edge nearest to you (This is generally the coolest part of the grill).
