PLEASE NOTE: This recipe calls for the GRILLING or BROILING of food. In most countries of the world, the term "grilling" refers to heat coming from above the food source. Significantly, in North America, it signifies heat from below the food (such as barbecuing). In the United States and Canada, when the heat source for grilling comes from above, grilling is termed broiling, and the pan that holds the food is usually called a broiler pan.
How to Cook Sausage and Cheese Toastie
Toast the bread then (optionally) spread it with a little Marmite. grate (shred) or crumble the cheese and spread it evenly over the toast. Place this under a hot grill (broiler) until the cheese just begins to melt. Slice the cooked sausages either lengthways (as I prefer) or in round slices (as shown above) and place on top of each toastie. Return to the grill for a few more minutes until the cheese begins to bubble.
- Alterntively (as shown on the right) you can crete "mini-toasties" for the kids by cutting a baguette and putting a slice of sausage on each one. Either way, a great snack for children and adults alike!

Marmite is a strange British yeast extract that you either love or hate. If you hate it or can't get it, create the toasties without it, then serve with either a little brown sauce or thick spicy barbecue sauce
Reviews of Sausage and Cheese Toastie
![]() It's a guaranteed crowd-pleaser! My daughter invited a bunch of friends back after school and they were all squealing how they were hungry, so I made the "mini-toasties" on a big plate and let them help themselves! Within minutes there were non left and my daughter came scrounging round the kitchen to see if I'd hidden any or made any more! norfolklady (3 reviews) |
![]() I'm really happy that you are giving simple recipes like this for students like me! This was amazing. I confess, I missed out the Marmite, but I did add a load of baked beans to the plate. Wow!! oli (1 review) |
What To Eat Tonight

The smoke, the sizzle, the aroma, yeah - it's time for BBQ but don't buy scrappy steaks if you want to eat like a king.

Pork is a meat fit for kings. From Filet Mignon with Sage and Rosemary to Gammon with Cumberland Sauce, we can show you the whole range.

Not everything is right for freezing. Some foods, however, just beg to go into the freezer waiting for that moment when you need them most!

The rich flavour of sage complemented by the distinctive, but not overpowering, bitterness of curd cheese sets this healthy dish apart from other dips
